April 2012

As you know, the essential focus of the Institute's work is research into consciousness and the implications of what we find. This research takes place both in laboratory and clinical settings, often with collaborators, and usually leads to a published paper. As we heard in our recent member survey as well as from others, there is strong interest in timely information about our projects, papers, and media coverage. To that end, we're starting a new email list for those wanting to stay in closer contact with the activities of IONS Research. Breaking News will provide short, periodic (once or twice a month) updates on things like new projects, new grants, publications, speaking engagements, and the latest scientific developments... directly from our research team. To subscribe to our Breaking News emails, go here.

Noetic Now

IONS is exploring ways to evolve the noetic sciences so we can better conduct and communicate the kind of thought-provoking work that is telling a new story of our human potential. Ever-tightening budgets are forcing us to be more creative in the ways we do this and our strategies for generating revenue. This may include a subscription-based interactive journal or fee-based, more engagement-rich website or content partnerships with other aligned organizations. As we approach our 40th year, our intent is ultimately to develop a model of organizational sustainability that positions us for the next decade and beyond while meeting the needs of a growing audience of seekers. To that end, please take a moment to fill out this brief survey and let us know what you think.

Mediumship Study — Part II

IONS and the Windbridge Institute are still conducting research into survival of consciousness with selected mediums who claim that they can sense if a person in a photo is alive or dead. At this point the emphasis has shifted to focusing these efforts on photos of people's faces who are alive. We will continue to analyze the mediums' performance and brain activity as they view these photos (without knowing who is still living and who isn't) and report the results to IONS members in the September newsletter. If you have photos of yourself or others you would like to share for this experiment, please click here. The people in the photos will not be identified.
