Noetic Now / IONS

JANUARY 2012

Dear Noetic Now Subscribers,

Welcome to 2012! No year in recent history (even Y2K) has engendered more speculation, fear, and anticipation. Is it the official end of the world as we've known it or just another year in a string of increasingly chaotic ones? Here at IONS we are inclined to see 2012 as a prominent benchmark in a period of transition characterized by the breakdown of outdated systems and worldviews and the emergence of new ones. As our decades of work have shown time and again, we are interconnected at fundamental levels—within ourselves, with each other, and with the world around us. It is this realization and story, supported by science, which we will continue to champion in service to achieving our highest individual and collective potential.

Noetic Now

As irony would have it, this first issue of the new year has drawn largely from the wisdom of both people and animals at the end of their journey to help guide the rest of us as we navigate the complexities of a changing world that is challenging us to adapt and grow.

New Features

Life, Death, and What Really Matters
by Karen Wyatt, MD

This precarious moment in time, when apparent destruction seems so ominously close, is actually a gift: an opportunity to remember and embrace our highest potential.

The Wisdom of the Wild

by Susan Eirich, PhD

The spirituality of wild animals is being discovered and nurtured at this unique sanctuary for wounded and abandoned creatures. They have much to teach us, as long as our hearts are open.

The Timing of Paradigm Shifts
by Richard Tarnas, PhD, with Dean Radin, PhD

This short lesson in the history of paradigm shifts reveals the complexity of these movements and the importance of the many forces at play. The Copernican Revolution didn't just happen and neither will the next one—but the conditions are ripening.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Living Each Day as If It Were Your Last
by Lee Lipsenthal, MD

In the final months before his passing, former IONS Board Member Lee Lipsenthal captured on paper what for him were the most enduring values he learned from a life well-lived: relationship, love, and gratitude.
