IONS March 2012

Noetic Now

This month's issue focuses on some of the psycho-emotional elements of consciousness and, more specifically, on how they can help or hinder our personal growth and the evolution of human society.

New Features

  Crisis and Spiritual Awakening
by Peter Russell, MA, DCS, FSP with Cassandra Vieten, PhD

Only by facing our shadow and acknowledging the role of consciousness will we find the keys to unlocking our potential and bringing wisdom to the challenges we face—personally as well as collectively.

Orchids and Dandelions: The Emerging Science of Emotional Sensitivity

by Michael A. Jawer

People are sensitive—some more apparently so than others—and how those sensitivities affect one's health is becoming a topic of increased scientific scrutiny.

In Search of Happiness
by Vesela Simic

There has been an unprecedented explosion of interest in the pursuit of happiness. Is this a useful quest in a time of global instability? The science of it may surprise you.

Book Excerpt
Darwin's Unfinished Business: The Self-Organizing Intelligence of Nature
by Simon G. Powell

There is an intelligence in evolution, argues Powell, but it has more to do with natural intelligence than some divinely inspired intent—the intrinsic capacity in all of life to absorb information, solve problems, and literally make sense of things.

Participate in Our Mediumship Study

IONS is conducting a research project on the possibility of survival of consciousness after death with selected mediums who claim they can sense if a person in a photo is alive or dead. To test this claim, we are collecting photos of people's faces. We will analyze the performance and brain activity of mediums as they view these photos, and will report the results to IONS members later this year in The Noetic Post membership newsletter. We understand that this may be a sensitive subject, but it is one that can be investigated using modern scientific methods, and no one in the photos will be identified by name. If you have photos you'd be willing to share (you don’t have to be a member to send photos)—of yourself, friends, or family members either alive or who are no longer with us—please click here for more information.
