As 2011 draws to a close, I look back on the changes and accomplishments we have achieved this year at EarthRise.

IONS’ research and education operations moved to Petaluma’s Foundry Wharf on the Petaluma River in February, making it possible for us to create another large meeting space, the Skylight Room, for clients and programs. We renovated eight office spaces for tenants, and welcomed Robert Williams of Clarus and The Shift Network to our campus where they joined our other tenants: The Chi Center, Veriditas, and Meridian University. The bookstore was remodeled and a deck built outside where guests can meet at café tables to enjoy coffee or a glass of wine.

A very exciting, long-time dream was realized with the completion of our 12-person hot tub and deck overlooking the rolling hills. Thanks to the addition of a part-time groundskeeper, Brian Chester, the campus looks more beautiful than ever. All that I mention is possible due to the excellent teamwork of the EarthRise staff. We are grateful for our clients, presenters, and guests who come to the land to do such good work and help EarthRise thrive. Happy 2012 to all! We hope to see you soon.

Thank You

What's New

Hot Tub

Hot Tub

We are delighted to announce the completion of our long awaited hot tub! The beautiful, 12-person tub includes an expansive deck, outdoor shower, and a fireplace built into the gorgeous stone wall that separates the tub from the retreat center lodging. An outdoor shower, bench seating, state-of-the-art chair lift for accessibility, and an unbeatable view round out this grand addition to our center. Bathing suits will be required so that everyone will feel comfortable.

This major accomplishment comes after nearly six years of visioning and multiple stages of approvals, funding, and construction. We extend appreciation and thanks to landscape architect Sandra Reed and green architect Claudia Cleaver for drawing the beautiful plans and engaging in the construction; to site manager Randy Evensen for managing the project; to the builders Tomas Dupal and Ivan Kurak; and to Harriett Crosby for her generous $10,000 contribution to the project.

For their engagement and support of the project, we heartily thank the IONS’ Board Land Committee: Bill Sechrest, Betsy Gordon, Harriett Crosby, Belvie Rooks, and Lisa Picard.

Art, Culture and Consciousness

First Matter: Paintings by Nicole Buffett
Exhibit: January 13–April 12, 2012
Art Reception: Sunday, Jan. 22, 2011 3-5 PM

My paintings describe an environment built upon the concept of pliancy and adaptation. I use traditional and non-traditional materials, foraged in my travels and time spent in nature, as a reflection and expression of my relationship to the world as a complex habitat for humans. The mediums I use create an outcome of hyper-organic, dimensional imagery where organic material is suspended and encased, layer-by-layer, under a glass-like surface.
